302 rebuild question

over the summer i am wanting to rebuild my motor and i want to kinda beef it up a little bit... not so much for pulling, but more for power in general... i have a 1995 f150 2wd with a 5.0L and i was wondering of some ideas of what to do with a budget of around a grand to 1500... and my lifters are already startin to click so those will have to be replaced...
i have a garage that i can work in and a shop nearby that replanes heads and bores and all that stuff too so that could be in the options...
thanks
Jesse

for that money, i would get a cam and lifter set, have the e7 heads worked over and get some good quality headers, and redo the exhaust from there back.

whats the mileage on the motor?

I guess if you are on a budget with a 302, forget the stroker. A 351 is another story. The only thing additional on one of those is the crank and pistons, but you will be buying pistons any way. A 351 stroker (393) only adds about 2-300 to the build.

I suggest a reman engine, with aftermarket cam, hearders, and exhaust, that will wake up the truck with out hurting the budget too much. Thats what I did on mine, see my gallery for pics

I went to Advance Auto Parts and ordered a remanufactured engine, It is remanufactured not rebuilt (theres a difference). It came with the block, heads, and timing chain set. I took my engine out swapped the intake, tinware, and accessories, ect over to the new engine, swapped in a new cam, and put it back in the truck. The motor was remanufactured by recon.

This will help explain the difference between rebuilt and remanufactured

I paid about 850 for the engine, It came with the roller cam and lifters (HO fireing order) and came with the GT-40 heads. I called Crane Cams and they custom made a cam for this set up and speed density computer. Cam was about 300. The headers were 300. New dual exhaust was 150.
