the biggest downpipe you can easily fit into our trucks without whacking the ***** out of the firewall is a 3". It should interface easily with the rest of your system. again...tymar makes a great one, for a heck of a deal.
alright thanks, i'll try calling tymar once i get a new tailgate on (mine is beat to s***), then i'll actually start ordering some of this stuff, once again, thanks for all your help, OH i just remembered something... what do you think about suncoast trannys? i could've sworn that i heard good things about them
they are a good tranny from what I hear but BTS is tops for our trannies and the 4R100's in the superduties.
also the Downpipe should be 3 inch but once its clears the tranny it can go bigger like 3.5 then 4 inch. the stock size pipe is 3.5 so hopefully your stack kit is 3.5 to 4 to 5 inch. cause 3" is too small other than for the downpipe.
it probably is, i havn't measured it or anything, i just assumed 3", it's made to fit my truck, so hopefully it does haha, and what's the point of an aftermarket downpipe if i'm not increasing the size of the downpipe? is it just because of the angles?
cause the stock down pipe isn't even round. its flat like a pancake. about 1 inch think and 5 inches wide. bad for flowing!! the 3 inch round will fit with two cuts and the body seam bent over flat.
ok that's kind of what i understood it as on mbrp's site, they claim that their downpipes for fords are 3", so i guess that means that they sell 3" down pipes? these are their exact words: "There are a few different sizes for down pipes for Ford trucks. For 94-97 trucks the pathway for the down pipe is very restrictive. In fact, the factory down pipe for these trucks are flat, approximately 1.5" in height. Our down pipe is 3" in diameter. For the 99-03 model years with a 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel the down pipe is 4" and the 03-06 model years with a 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel the down pipe is 3.5". "
oh and i emailed them about this and this is what they told me:
"Hello Bruce and thanks for sending us your inquiry. All of our Smokers systems connect to the downpipe with a 4” flexpipe and are 4” through to the end of the “T” pipe kit. Your stacks would mount to this in your choice of 4”, 5” or 6”.
Hope this answers your questions…..if you need anything further, please don’t hesitate to call or email."
Not to argue with yall but one thing I like about the banks is it is tested and your engine will still last 500,000 mile unlike kist like bully dog and some home built who are just going for power.
Another thing I like about the Banks version is that it has an EGT bung coming out of the turbo. I know the best place for it is pre-turbo but it's way more work. My 4in AFE exhaust did not have a bung on their dp so I mated my Banks dp to the AFE system at the dp split.
if thats whats important to ye that fine but my thermocouple goes in the manifold. also I will not agrue that banks sutff is quality I said that from the start but if you don't have a $50k a year job or your going for all out power then Banks isn't the stuff for you.
Another thing that I like about the smaller guys is the customer service. Banks ain't going out business just cuase I don't really liek their stuff and everybody who asks my opinion I tell them that. But the smaller guy if they don't take care of the their customer they are out of business. So they strive for 100% satifaction and do it!
Banks was a first step for me and I do like dealing with them. Then better int & exh. Their customer service is pretty damn good IMHO. True there's way more you can do, but now that I can drag my bronco and trailer around like they're not even there, I'll leave it for now. Plus my time and bucks are going into my Bronco now and my new GF :0). If I decide later I want more power I'll consider some of the mods you guys have mentioned, (injectors, IC, better chip, etc.)
Without touching the injectors you're only gonna make so much HP out of our trucks. So it won't effect the longevity of the motor. Banks has a good product and I'm not knocking them but a regular Joe's money can be better spent on the same or better mods , for less money, and the same or better results.
yeah by the way since this post was made i've put on my stacks and ordered a tymar intake, through bean's dielse, about 2 days after i finished (still hasn't come), the second i put that in i'm gonna order the, dp tuner (stock, high-idle, 80 hp econo, 120 hp race, 140hp aggressive smoke), autometer guages, diy injectors, once i get all that on i'll see if i'll need a new intercooler yet, if i do i'll just run to a junkyard or ebay and try to get either like a banks technicooler or a newer model 7.3 or 6.0 intercooler, and i'll also see if i'll need a torque converter at that time, as well as the valve body (which by the way all that'll do is let the truck shift smoother right?)
if you plan to get a BTS valve body you will want to tell dp tuner that cause they will do the programming with that in mind. also if you do injectors you will want your chio burned for that. if you can you will want to do it at the same time. or try to time it all just right.
