Can my 96 F150 351W automaitic trans run without cats. This truck is OBDll. Some tell me it wont run, and some will. Some even say i can loose power? Does anyone have the real answer for me.
If the o2 sensors are still in place I think it would run . But I avoid the OBD II because of all the extra sensors. Get some high flow cats or a bassani y-pipe w/cat if its going to be problem . Good luck
definitely will run without cats......lots of them out there like that.....you'll get lights and codes if you don't have your sensors installed somewhere....My 92 5.0 is catless and the sensor is in the pipe.....no codes
The power issue seems to be a toss-up here......some say if you have too big of pipe and no backpressure "ie" cats & mufflers.......you lose power on the low end.....taking off. Others say it will even affect gas mileage. I've been to 4 muffler shops getting estimates and 3 of the 4 said they would only use 2" pipe if i run glasspacks (no back pressure)......it's 2" and glasspacks now and runs good.....i'm in the process of checking mileage now after tuning it up. Some here are running straight pipes....and say it's fine.
Personally I believe there has to be some backpressure.....but how much.......i don't know.......
Now that I've completely confused you even more.......Do you live where you need cats for inspections? If not.....take them off and mount the sensor in the pipe and see how it runs.
Good Luck
