86 F350 horn problem-doesn't work with engine running
horn on my '86 F350 doesn't work with key in the "on" posotion or with the engine running.
it works with key off or back in the accessory position.
don't know if it did this before my son replaced the ignition switch.
any suggestions?
thanks
It sounds like you have lost the ground to the steering column. See if you have a little ground strap that goes around the rag joint just before the steering box. I do not know if these trucks used the strap or not, some later models used a rubbing block up in the column.
If you want to experiment to see if this is the problem. take a short piece of wire and touch one end to the steering box shaft right next to the steering box, and touch the other end to the shaft coming out of the bottom of the steering column, right above the rag joint. See if that makes the problem go away.
