I have been looking at many pictures and vehicles to determine what in the heck this little light, if that is what it is, does. It is right beside the left dash air vent. To me it looks like an LED light with a opaque white cap on it. I have not seen it activated.
VFR, seemed to have nailed it, I believe. To go a different route... Did you buy the truck New? Seems like an odd spot even for a dealer added option/accessory. I'd assume either the Ford sec. system VFR suggested or simply "Other" aftermarket unit...
Thanks for the feedback. Bought the truck used. It has a "Ford" remote start system with keyless entry. The remote start was dealer installed 2 months after the in service date. I will have to keep any eye on the little sucker to see if it blinks.
sometimes different starting units will only light up the LED when they are put into the "programming" mode.... its just a way of letting you know. but, not to rule anything out.... thats just a quick thought.... i guess it just all depends on which exact system was installed.
Reading the install and operator manuals for the systems, it doesn't look like the remote start only system has the LED, it comes as part of the security system, at least on the current systems. Do you have the dipole antenna stuck to the windshield near the rear view mirror? If so, you have the security system too.
If you haven't seen the link before, you can get the install and owners manuals for the current systems at http://www.gemsen.com/ford/.
The LED location is up to the installer to some degree, it's location can vary.
The led is for the factory installed security system. I had one installed before i picked up the truck in '04. It is an odd spot for it to be but i think it's the only place they put it.
...mine has it built into the photocell on the dash.
That's the standard, passive system (Securilock) LED that you're seeing, right? The active system gets another LED that is just popped into a hole drilled somewhere on the dash.
My '05 has a red LED that blinks when I shut the truck off. Not sure if this is with the coded key system, or whats left of an aftermarket security system. It is mounted on top of the dash in front of the driver's side towards the windshield. Bought the truck used, and they told me they remove all aftermarket systems, so they dont have any warranty probs with the ignition. At any rate, the blinking light at least LOOKS like I have a security system in there. But when I'm in the truck I have my own security system with her 6 friends.
