So I have a Fabtech 6' radius arm lift on a 2005 F350, with the 2.25 Dirt logic shocks. I noticed a 'clunk noise' from the front end and had it checked, nothing. I got home, looked and the top washer on the top front shock bushings was concave....or.....severely bent. This point of the mount also had some play, I attribute the clunk to this movement. I called the shop and we made arrangements to replace the washers, no problem. Then I get a call for work, drive 1500km to the great white north (because who can say no to the oil and gas giants) and then low and behold, my front drivers shock pulled out of the top mount, fell sideways, and I lost the bushing, so obviously the washer broke. The shock, mount etc is fine, I just lost the bushing, so I can't fix it out here in the bush.
No I told you that to ask you this......is it safe to drive it home, aside from handling issues? Should I be concerned about the spring falling off or more damage being done? Can I limop it home safely if I drive like a normal person and avoid jumping it? The nearest town is 200 km away down pretty poor roads.
As long as the shock is detached and you can drive it safely you shouldn't have any problems. Just remember that your front end is gonna act funny...watch any hard, panic kinds of braking too.
Take the shock completely off to avoid it getting banged up or getting caught in your wheel. Just go easy, you may get bounced around a little bit more than normal but you will be fine.
It sounds like something isn't lined up correctly, the shock shouldnt have any type of pull to the side to make it bend a washer, and definately not enough to make the thing come off.
The top bolt on the shock is vertical, and the washer bent under ompression and shock action, and then failed, allowing the shock to pull downwards through the washer and bushing, nut and all, out of the front shock mount of the truck itself....sorry for the confusion. I did remove the shock so its out of the way, no I'll limp it to a Midas or something and have them change the washers and reinstall the shock body before my long drive home. Or do it myself if I can get the parts. Thanks for the replies.
