My first time in this particular forum. Im usually in the Superduty one. My 2003 Expedition always has the door ajar indicator on and now my battery has gone dead. Ive heard that you use WD-40 for this but where do I apply it? Where are the switiches for the door ajar sensor?
Thanks for the help,
Dave
Use the WD-40 on your door latches. The door ajar switch is located in the latch assembly and gets gummed up from time to time. A quick cleaning of the latches with WD-40 should take care of the problem for ya.
When I do it I take a screw driver and prop the latch into the "closed" position and spray the WD-40 down there, then release the door handle and proceed to use the screw driver to move the latch and get it greased up nice.
I had this problem with mine when I bought it. I eventually had to take the door panel off and pull out the switch to clean it. All the WD40 I had couldn't make the light go out.
WD-40 fixed this problem for me. I sprayed it a couple of times in each latch. I opened and closed the door between sprays. Don't forget to do the rear window and lift gate. It's been 3 weeks now and it hasn't happened again.
days ago...ill try the wd40 in the AM. how long does the dome light stay on when the door is ajar and the locks are engaged? hoppefully not too long but ive seen it after about 10-15 mins
Ive had this problem for around a week of leaving the EXP with the dome lights on hoping it would start on my return...and I looked on the forum for an answer and then that day it went away. I cant explain it but I believe that I have a truck that fixes itself...I cant wait for it to work on its suspension/ exhaust/ tuneup this summer while I sit on here and drink lemonaid...

I was living with this insanity of the door ajar light...on off on off....I was so happy when I found this thread. What a simple fix for such an annoying problem. I was close to driving this truck off a cliff...thanks for the advice.
Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I currently have a 2000 Eddie Bauer Expedition that I'm trying to sale and wouldn't you know, the "door ajar" light has just come on - always something. I will try the WD-40 but I've also heard that PB Blaster does the same thing. This can usually be found at Wal-Mart - one of the mechanics at the Ford Dealership told me he likes PB Blaster better. Thanks for the tip.
