Seem like anytime I'm driving already in motion, and I floor it I get this big bang...downshift...go. Or if I'm driving and I give the gas a light tap to pass someone, seems like the rpms go up as for a downshift, and then drop right back down seeminly losing all power. I just replaced the u-joint which was the cause of my last problem which was a howling or grinding when flooring it. That fixed it. Now what could this trans problem be. The truck has 72k on it, and has been driven hard that last 8k. I haven't replaced and flushed the trans fluid, so you think that could help this problem

Definately, It's Cheap insurance and it may solve your trouble for now. Does the fluid look good and not have any burnt odor. You said it's been worked hard for the last 8k, it that pulling heavy loads? Does your OD light flash?
BTW: Be sure to have the tranny filter replaced, not just a fluid flush from the quick-change oil places. Some torque converters have a drain plug, if so that fluid too. Remove the rubber plug from the bottom bell housing, spin the engine by hand to see if it does have a plug in it.
8k by being in the woods, trailering a car back from CT to NJ, just I've abused it a bit more than necessary. Fluid seems fine, doesn't really smell burnt. I'm going to have the fluid changed on monday, maybe tuesday see if that clears this problem up.
Also, could it be something with the rear? Maybe the pinion or something along those lines. I replaced the u-joints because there was 2 caps on the joint that were cracked with pieces missing. Now, could something else be wrong because it seems like there is a huge BANG about 1/2 the downshifts.
