Seat Spring ?

Went to recover my 75 bench seat this weekend. And the drivers side seat spring is broke. I can not find just the spring anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find replacement springs ? Or should I just try and weld it ? Any suggestions on welding it ?

Thanks

I have seen a replacement spring available in one of the catalogs from the sponsors here. I'll have to do some research when I get home to my "library" and let you know unless someone happens to have the info handy.

If you weld it, it will more than likely break. If you have one around try the salvage yard and take springs from the passenger side of a truck with a torn up seat. They are usually resonable.

Yep, if you don't pre-heat it or post-heat it, the spring will break at the edge of the HAZ.

If you pre-heat it and post heat it... it'll bend at the weld and stay bent.

Take your pick. ;)

Sounds like welding is out.
I thought about the salvage yard but would really like a new spring if possible. Since I have it tore down to the frame I want to replace both sides. Don't really want to put another 20-30 year old spring in it. Cause it might not last that long. Someone has to make replacement springs.

I got in touch with a local trim shop and he hooked me up with a spring out of a recliner. It's a little firmer but it works great. And for 5 bucks how can I go wrong !

Seat springs were never sold by Ford after the 1950's, they only came with the cushion kit. Cushion kits came with everything except the upholstery.

Look in Hemmings, there are suppliers listed for seat springs..one is "Original Auto Upholstery."
