Rebuild rearend

I have a 91 with a 355 gear. It is making noise at 71 mph and above. Just had it checked and the shop said need rear end rebuilt but they don't do them, anyone have any idea what it runs to have them rebuilt

Should run about $75 and a couple hours of your time at the local u-pull-it getting another rear end.

$75? For what, the labor to swap out the rear? I have seen used rear ends go for around $300 - $500. Mine is doing it too, but I am trying to decide if I should regear from 3.55 to 3.73.

Honney was just saying that you could get one from a pick and pull wrecking yard and swap it out yourself for $75.

If you have a shop do it, it will be much more. I had the rear in my '79 rebuilt and I think it ran close to $600.

I agree. Do the rear end yourself. I think I got a whole "new to me" rearend from the salvage yard for $100. And they took it off for me as well. Works like a charm.
