4R100 Troubleshooting
<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1><TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">basics: 2002 EB EXP. 2wd 5.4L auto 4wh discs 90000 miles
checked-good; trans fluid: red, smells good, looks good, no grit, full
rear discs: new
parking brake: adjusted properly
Initial concern;
when starting the vehicle in park, sometimes, there is a slight jerk, or lurch forward. (normally when e-brake is applied before shutting the engine off). the wheels dont spin, just drivetrain moving. then when put into reverse, to back up, the vehicle responds as if the e-brake is applied, taking a lot of throttle to move. It gets a little easier the further you back up, (a long driveway versus a parking spot) ALL forward gears operate flawlessly.
My first thoughts were ebrake, or something related hanging.
I lifted the truck off the ground and began testing......
PARK- when vehicle started in Park, occasional wheel movement, (i.e SLIGHT jerk forward)
REVERSE- when put in reverse, at idle wheels do not spin, you must give it gas, even then it acts restricted.
NEUTRAL- when put in neutral, wheels begin to turn slowly at idle. If gas is applied, wheels spin very quickly. Once spinning, the wheels do not respond differently to various throttle postions, (i.e no faster with more gas) you can stop the wheels by hand, but they eventually start spinning again.
DRIVE- the transition from N to D is barely noticeable, other than the wheels now respond to the various gas positions.
I have tried to pull codes from the main OBDII plug, none stored. I disconnected the linkage from the column to the trans and shifted manually at the trans mounted switch, no difference.
Is it possible that the trans mounted switch is bad?
the torque convertor?
the "layshaft"
what is wrong with it? any thoughts, experiences? HELP!!!
when put into reverse, it acts as if it is fighting against the forward movement slipping thru. idleing off the ground the wheels pulsate, or shutter.
