My 1964 didn't come with a radio, but I found the original AM on ebay and just put a couple of 4" Kenwoods in the door panels. Actually, I installed everything today and I'm having a problem. The radio light comes on and I can hear static on the speakers (and I did plug the antenna cable into the radio), but I can't get any stations at all. Any thought as to what I may have done wrong...or what may be wrong with the radio?

Thanks,

Puffyd

I think the speaker size is 4X6, not sure. But if you change out the radio, and only want to use the single speaker, make sure you buy a dual voice coil speaker. It is a single speaker that allows you to plug two channels into it. Kind of like 2 speakers into one. Custom Autosound is one company that sells old style radios. They also offer slim line speaker boxes that fit under the seats. Not sure how they sound, as I have no money to buy them!

Puffyd,

You joined in December 2005 and this is only your first post!? You have exercised great restraint, grasshopper!

I'm not sure whether to say Welcome to FTE or not!

Seriously, (or probably not) ya think it is because there aren't any AM stations left?

I was planning on installing a Custom Autosound USA-4DIN radio in my '66. I have the original radio but the dash was cut for a newer radio in the early 80's. The 4DIN is a cd stereo. I am also looking at the USA-230 as I do not use cd's anymore. I really like the looks of the 4DIN with the chrome bezel and I do not know how the 230 or 630 would look if my hole is not perfect. The price for the 230 and 4DIN is $159 and the 630 is $239.

Let us know how everything turns out.

Garbz has the right idea, keep the stock if there and install a secondary system. I do not have anything in mine, but am looking into an Ipod type of set up only.

Rehashing old thread…. I have a 64’ CC with removable speaker grill on the center dash, does the single speaker mount from underneath or from on top? From on top that 3.5” round hole seems really small to fit a speaker down into it.

any speaker recommendations?
