I just installed a set of Automter Phantom gauges I bought used. I got them all mounted up and seem to work find except I don't think the boost gauge is working right. It only reads a max of maybe 20 at WOT. Also it rattles really bad, and the needle shakes a lot at 20psi also. I guess my main questions about be, is this a good boost reading and what can I do to get it stop rattling and vibrating?
Also I have a DP tuner chip running in the 80hp econo setting, high flow intake, and stock downpipe to 4" exhaust.
Prior to my modifications, my boost went to about 16 psi. (on Autometer Phantom gauges.) After 6637 intake, 3"to4" downpipe, gutted EBPV, no cat, 4" exhaust and Tony Wildman chip my boost will get up to about 25 psi. I would bet that if you change that stock downpipe to the 3'' aftermarket you would see the boost come up a bit. Not to mention reduce the EGTs a bit. My needle doesn't bounce around at all. The smoke sounds like a little bit of blow by into the crankcase. How many miles on it and more importantly how's it been maintained?
The truck has about 133,000 miles on it. I change the oil about every 3,000 miles. Would the boost gauge rattle and jump around becuase it's tapped into the map sensor line? Where is yours connected?
On second thought, I did have to get a different tee from the hardware store. The one that was sent with the gauge didn't fit correctly and the tubing from the gauge was loose.
How is the T fitting configured on your truck? I'm wondering if i change it around so that the boost gauge has a straight shot from the original map sensoe hose it might work better, and make the map sensor use the fitting that comes off at a 90 degree angle?
