I tried to adjust the shroud around the fan assembly last night due to the actual fan coming in contact with the shroud. Still no luck. the fan contacts the shroud on the drivers side, which has no gap at all. the passenger side has well over an inch of gap. Is there a way to adjust it so there is more gap? It seems as though the only adjustment possible is up/down, and that is only to achieve a 1/4 - 1/2 inch adjustment, maybe?? I'm about to take a Dremel tool to it and just start slicing away the plastic - Yeah, I know the plastic is there for protection - but this noise is driving me nuts.
I would grind it down just enough to stop the blades from touching the shroud. Sounds like there might be something else wrong though. The fan shouldn't be rubbing anything. Check to make sure the shroud and radiator are seated properly in the frame rails.
You MAY have a twisted frame. If the noise bugs you, take the fan
and shroud out and go with and electric fan. You will get a couple more horsepower by doing so.
Well, I figured out what caused the fan shroud to shift. the core support is rusted and has dropped slightly. NOT a great situation to be in. I was able to adjust the shroud the second time around so it doesn't come in contact with the fan blades. I'm wondering how big of a deal this really is (the core support), and what problems this could cause in the future. Ideas have been floating in my head to sell soon, while it is still worth some $$.
