XLT vs. FX4 vs. Lariat

Opinion time...
I'm pretty sure that a lot of the differences are just trim level, and at least for the FX4 there are skid plates and different shocks (still not sure how good they really are).
So what does everyone think.. If you had the choice of either one, which one would you choose (pricing obviously goes up as the model does)..
Also, does anyone really know how good the skid plates and shocks are on the FX4? I have found it hard to get a straight answer..
Thanks guys...

Chris

Well i dont know basically i would pick the on i like or could afford like do you want leather cause then if you dont that rules out lariat leather is optional in FX4 i really dont know if the shocks are skid plates are that good either but you also get those wheels found only on FX4s and stickers and what not its basically what your wants and needs are.. good luck

The XLT interior doesn't do it for me so I started looking at the FX4. By the time I optioned everything I wanted on an FX4, it was only another $500 to go with the Lariat. The leather seats are not exactly a selling point for me, but I do like the chrome bumpers over the painted ones just for finish durability.

I can't imagine the shocks on the FX4 are anything spectacular that couldn't be bettered by aftermarket shocks. As far as the skid plates, they're definitely better than nothing, but you can't expect to go hard core rock crawling with them either. The tank skid plate is "composite" and looks like a 1/4" thick hunk of plastic to me, probably has some glass reinforcment. Fine for dirt, but wouldn't want to drag it over sharp rocks.

Went with the Lariat. The leather is nice. The information center is nice. I also like the chrome bumpers as compared to the painted ones. I have the 4x4 and I had skid plates installed by the dealer when I bought it. To me, it was the interior that won me over.

I bought a Lariat simple because I found one with the options I wanted in it and it was the only way to get the factory flairs painted to match the truck.

Lariat is what I chose, and I looked for a looong time.
I got the 4X4 and skid plates came from the factory, the guage package was probably the final difference. If you put two very equal packages together, the FX4 and the Lariat are pretty close in $$'s.
One more thing - I wanted the 20" wheels

I will have to say. I have an FX4 and really love it. It had all the options that I was looking for pretty much in one package. Do like I did, go get a brochure and set down and look at all the options and pick the ones that you like and see which package suits you best. Best of luck to you on what ever you choose!!

Lariat is where it's at. I'll never own a vehicle with cloth. Always worried about spills or dog hair...not with leather. I can spill grape juice on my blond leather and wipe it up without a blemish. The seats never get THAT hot before the AC cools them down and the seat heaters are warm before the truck is in the winter. I was looking for an FX4 at first mainly for the skid plates and thought it had better off road capabilites, but it's got nothing but REALLY dinky skid plates.

I looked at XLT, Lariat and FX4 and liked all of them lol. I ended buying a FX4 used. It had the features I wanted and it was the best deal I could find. Mine has the bench seat in the front, one of the features I was looking for and I love the look of the FX4 package.

Xlt,fx4,lariat!

Guys,
I cant speak to the 4X4 aspect cause it really isnt justifiable where I am, and if I need to get off road...I change to 2 wheels....but as many of the other posters...XLT is a fine truck, I found a couple of FX2s that had cloth, I wanted to stay with leather...as I said in another post the best is easy to get used to.....Then I found my TRUCK...that pearl /clear coat...Super Crew w/ 6.5 bed...black leather, heated memory seats.... all of the other whistles and bells I couldn't have speced it out better myself. there were mabey 4 or 5 options my truck didn't have....so I am happy with the Lariat....

I love the black interior with the carbon fiber and the leather that my FX4 has, like desertford said. In the screw version I think it really looks great. Also I like the 20" wheels and the two-tone paint scheme. I'm not sure how much I really care about the heavier shocks and skid plates, since I probably won't ever be in a position to benefit from them. All the trim levels look great, BTW. I got the FX4 because it was the "best" one available in the 06 model year when I found it (Jan 07). It's optioned well enough for me, and coming from a 17 year old van only adds to the cool factor.
