Hey Bronco fans, JBronco here. I haven't posted for a while, because since I bought my Harley I hardly ever drive the Bronco anymore! But I have been keeping it maintained and fixing lots of little things so it will be ready for winter. Lately, the rear window has not been working right. It is kind of jerky, and needs help to go all the way back up. It is almost like it loses power, when it stops the key or switch does nothing. But if you push on the window it will move again. The switches have power and all that. I'm thinking it is the motor, I don't know what else it would be. Has anybody replaced the motor before? I looked in my manual, where it shows how to take the window out. There is something about tying the regulators together because the spring is under tension or something. Is this an easy job, and where do you get the motor? Thanks, JBronco
getting the window up is easy with gate down,1 put gate down,2 pull inspestion cover,3 pull plug apart where it comes from key.4 now make a jumper cable that goes to the motor.(2 wires).5 if you have a battery charger hook it up to the motor. window should come up. if not reveres the wires.6 now with the window out of the gate( you will need 2 people for that) you can put white grease on the sliders.7 or if someone has better ideas?? the motors are very good on these trucks and don,t usally fail. mostly it,s a track problem. mudder trucker
The other way to make the window go up is on each side of the tailgate is a switch built into the latches. Simply push down on the latches and the tailgate can be raised like normal. Make sure to have someone ready to hold the glass so it doesn't flex backwards and break. I had to replace the motor on my old bronco (had to happen when it was 40 below out.) If the motor still works though, then just greasing the track should do the trick.
So press in on the latches, and press the switch at the same time, or does pressing the latches release it so you can use the switch? I have seen both of the above methods described before, but I did not pay attention because I didn't need to do this at the time! Thanks
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Aug-02 AT 06:37 PM (EST)]All you have to do is lower the tail gate, close the left hand latch on the tail gate and you can use your key to operate the window. Remember to support the glass so you don't break it. When you are done open latch by lifting the tail gate handle again. Make sure to lower the window before closing the tailgate!
Well, I tried greasing the regulators, also the big "gears," but it still does the same thing. I think the motor might be sticking. Whatever it is, it happened all of the sudden so I don't think it is a grease issue. I'm not fooling with it anymore, I'm taking it to someone who knows his way around these things. I work too many hours to spend my free time with this window! At least I found out why my defroster didn't work though, one of the connectors fell off.
BTW, the trick about pushing in the left latch works great. Really easy to do. Thanks all for the help.
