Question 99 xlt a/c fan vent problem

Hi all

I have a strange problem with the fan vents in my 99 explorer, the a/c works fine but no matter what position you have the fan vents set to it will only come out the windscreen vent : (

Any ideas where to looks for faults?

thanks in advance

You have a vacuum problem; the air control defaults to defrost when there's no vacuum to operate the controls. Check under the dash and in the engine compartment for broken/loose/disconnected vacuum lines; also check the vacuum reservoir for leaks.

IIRC, temperature is electrically operated and air control is vacuum operated. If you have vacuum to the control head, then it or an actuator may be bad.

Of course; you didn't think it would break in an easy-to-get-to place, did you? Glad to hear you got 'er fixed.
