I recently purchased a cam that I cannot ID.I have tried to measure the lobe lift by measuring the narrow part of the lobe then the widest part of the lobe and subtract that being lobe lift.tThe narrow part being anywhere from 1.494-1.499 with an avg of 1.495.The camshaft has no visible signs of wear whatsoever.I would not be afraid to run it in a new engine. The lift figured for 1.73 rockers turne out to be anywhere from .468 to .486 with 1.76 rockers .476 to .494 .I used a digital caliper. The measurments were unsteady to say the least. The cam has an old FoMoCo logo just ahead of the last bearing on 1 side and a lightly stamped upsidedown A then a deeply stamped or cast in BX. Just in front of and just behind the 3rd bearing on opposite sides is the number 3. This cam was with a bunch of 428 CJ parts. Does anyone know of a really good parts number ID book or where to go and ask about this cam? I have never tried to measure a new cam to see if their lift claims are accurate. Any help would be appreciated.
www.woodyg.com has most of the stock cams. Scroll down to the FE section and you'll see the cam ID link. That cam is not listed tho. Are you sure it's not a upsidedown A with a BA after it? Is there a paint daub on the cam...if so what color? All my good cam info is on my old puter. I'll have to look as that A/BX does not ring a bell. Those specs kinda sound like the stock CJ hyd cam. The BA cam is the 306*/.500 427 solid.
