posted this over in the exhaust forum, but its kinda slow over there, so figured i'd try here.
Ok, right now I have a true dual exhaust, no x-pipe, going to two flowmaster super 40's, and they're not loud enough for me anymore. They never were. I want something that's loud, but smooth. I don't want glasspacks because they're too raspy and "poppy" for me....I dont like the crackle. I hear a lot of good things about Dynomax's Bullet mufflers.....do these sound good? I am going to put in an x-pipe, but I would like to know what kind of mufflers to buy.... Anyone have any good sound clips?
Bullet mufflers are pretty much the same as glass packs. Take a look at spintech or edlebrock's SDT mufflers. However to get that deep sound you may need larger pipes. 2.5" pipes will be throaty, I would not recommend 3" unless you have a lot of mods.
yeah, that does have a nice sound, it just doesnt seem that aggressive, kinda ricey....Looking for something real deep at idle, good through the entire RPM range (i like the drone), and that sounds smooth and doesnt crackle
The microphone on the camera's suck. These are as close to that the scum of the earth harley davidson, dirt bag, window rattling exhaust sound a v8 will produce with mufflers.
I have heard of several people using these that will set off car alarms 40 feet from thier car. I know they are big with the chevy crowd, but you should be able to find someone with them at a large car show.
I have a 3.5" straight pipe from my cat and it sounds GRRRRRRRRRRRREAT! Not too loud when I am in parking garages, but when I hit the throttle I get plenty of pi$$ed looks
smog issues are just for your catalytic converter. if your truck falls within dB levels (if there is a sound law) then it's fine.... like farm truck said, all a muffler does is muffle
another question sort of along the same subject, do any of you guys know where is the best place to mount an X-pipe? Performance/sound wise? Right before the muffler, mid-way between, after the muffler....where?
Draw a line on the pipe with crayon or spray paint, then run the motor for about 15 minutes. Here the crayon or paint has burned off, that's where the cross over should be placed.
whats the reason? run at an idle, or drive around? one pipe or both? I'm not sure how to determine where they go and what the reasoning is, im not dismissing your knowledge
