Fuel Drain O rings - help

I attempting to replace the famous O rings in the drain valve and have a question. The new O rings seems to be too large to fit the recess diameter in the valve. The old ones measure .487 (just under a 1/2") and fit nicely. But I can not press in the new ones using finger pressure. The new rings match the spec's I found on the grainger and mcmaster-carr website, measuring at .512 on the outside diameter..(the valve measures .484 inside the recess diameter.) I am surprised they are so hard and not pliable like the factory o rings.. Don't see how to make them work without pressing them in with my bench vise, which does not sound normal to me. Help

Look at Alan's Help Network website. He has a new chart for common o-rings, with sizes and part numbers.

I recently went to Graingers and bought Viton o-rings for my water seperator on my 99.5. They were 25-rings for $5.17. They fit perfectly. It's been several weeks and all is fine, no more leaks. Others places I checked wanted 10-times the price. I dont have the numbers handy but it on another of my posts.

I got mine from a friend who got them from McMaster-Carr.. They are -202 p/n, white in color and hard as a rock & not pliable. I will drive down to Graingers which is only 9 miles away and get theirs. I wondering if my valve housing is undersized for some reason. These o rings are suppose to be pretty standand in size, but noticed on the internet they do come both in "hard" and "medium hard". Thanks for the info..guys
