Electrical Problem (lights)
Where do the flat five plug and the round plug on the factory towing package come together ? Under the vehicle? Above a wheelwell?
My problem : Using either the flat five, or a round to flat adaptor, I can not get anything to work on the trailer I tow. The trailer lights all work fine hooked up to other trucks, but when hooked up to my Excursion, only the left brake light works on the trailer. The number 6, 20 amp fuse is fine.
I am thinking I need to find where the flat and round plug wires join, and hopefully run new wire from there to plugs, or buy new plugs with long leads and tie them together that way. I also spent four years in fifth grade so any troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Extra Credit Question !!!
The reverse lights stay on whenever driving Excursion. Doesn't matter if its in drive or reverse. I got tired of warning tickets, so I just removed bulbs. Also, when the shifter is put in reverse, the dash blower fan comes on. (I think this problem is in the shift gear in the steering column, somehow closing some contacts, because thats the only place I can think that the transmission and blower electrical cross paths electrically.) Any ideas there? Greg
I can't say for sure where they meet but I would first guess that they come out from where the rear AC is. I say just follow them to where the come in to body. I would test the wires themselves to see if they are working as designed. No sense in running wires from the point where the two plugs split if the wires are bad or if something further up the line is bad.
Reverse lights: Sounds like you may have to pull the steering wheel and check the clockspring. Something is getting crossed in there.
As far as the blower fan...holy crap....just sell the darn thing!

Weclome to FTE. I know I was of no help but I spent 3 years in fifth grade and well...
I do have the wiring on the truck and will look later. I suspect you have a fuse out on the towing package side of the turnsignal system. This is independant from the normal power to tail lights for turn. Jim
For the back up lights there is a switch on the steering column called the "digital transmission range sensor" or "DTR" that controls your back up lights. Power goes from the battery to this switch and then to the back up lights. This is the only component that will cause your lights to remain on unless you have flooded or accidental damage. You will have to have this switch replaced. From what I can tell it is connected to the Shift arm inside the column under the steering wheel. If you don't know how to do this work have someone do it for you to prevent accidental discharge of the air bag which could cause injury.
Hope this helps. Jim
