Right. Swapping heads will move the valves 1/8" closer to the pistons. The 86 mustang 5.0 HO had a cam with a 266/266 duration and a .445/.445 lift with the same heads. The B303 is about the hottest cam you can use with these heads. (284/284 duration and .480/.480 lift) without problems. Adding more cam doesn't help with these heads anyway.
It's possible. Total lift isn't the only factor in piston to valve clearance, duration and the timing events also have a lot to do with it. On the exhaust stroke, the piston chases the valve up, then just before it reaches TDC, the intake valve starts to open, then chases the piston down on the intake stroke.
yea your right. I was thinking the E cam would give me more room since it has less duration than the B cam. But I will also have more lift.I wonder if there is any way I can measure to see how much lift I can run?

Yes there is. You have to remove the valve springs for a cylinder and install some light weight test springs, put a dial gauge on the valve stem and then with the piston at TDC push the valve in until it contacts. The intake valve is the biggest so it will be the one to contact first. This is a rough guide and doesn't take cam duration into account so you may want to subtract 50-100 thou from whatever maximum you get for a margin of safety.
well I had to cancel the order for the E303 cam. They said it would not clear the pistons. I need a cam with no more than .472 lift. What should I get? Any ideas?
The answer will also depend on who you talk to there as well. I know the B cam's been used with the E6SE heads and the pistons they had under them. I got the same answer from a counter guy at a Ford Racing dealer too, but have since learned otherwise. I don't recall who or where, but in my travels on the net, I have run across a few guys who have used the B cam with these heads. One site was a bunch of guys who were playing with Crown Vics and such, do a search and you'll run across them.

sweet, that would be the place to look for info then. I will see if I can fins that forum and check it out.
Ok, I got my F4TE cam today. Anyway that what he claims. I measured it and came up with 424 intake lift and 444 exhaust lift. Does this sound right? I may not of measured perfect.
