Does anyone here have the "Brute" air compressor? It's marketed by Briggs & Stratton and sold through Walmart. I know it's not the "top-of-line" compressor but I'll probably only use it for airing up tires and blowing dust out of filters. www.brutepower.com
briggs and stratton make great engines especially with lawn mowers.
as long as you dont go industrial with it im sure it will handle around the garage projects.
i had an old briggs lawn mower thing never died, there were times it had hardly any oil and it wouldnt burn out. i picked it up at a yard sale and it always worked great.
just remember that it is direct drive, and will be so loud that the neighbors in the next county over will hear it when it is running.
unless the compressor and motor are separate and belt driven, it will be so loud you will need earmuffs to be in the garage when it is running.

Yes it's direct drive but it's also an oil-lubricated compressor which will be quiter than an oiless type.
It will be good for tires and small, quick tools, but that is about it. It will not be able to push a die grinder or anything like that for any amount of time. For general purpose around the house, it will do fine.
I just bought a new 220volt 60 gallon compressor from Harbor Freight to replace my old Craftman. My old Craftman was about the same size (tank and engine) as the Brute, but I also needed one that would push a lot of airtools. The Brute only pushes 4.2cfm at 90psi, where the new one is 12.4cfm at 90psi.
I use older propane or refrigerant bottles. They are made to old extreme pressure. I keep a couple of old refrigerant one, the main reason there several kits you can use and come with a gauge too
