Ever Notice How Safeway...

... puts the milk and bread at the furthest point possible, from the entrance.

I guess it's a marketing tactic, so if you go in only for a loaf of bread, you'll have to pass by all the other wholesome goodness in the store and you'll get the urge to buy something else that catches your eye.

If I want convenience, I guess I have to go to a convenience store... maybe then I wouldn't have to stand in line for 5 minutes to buy a loaf of bread either.

You are wise beyond your years, oh great ball of fur. The safeway curse has beaten many a mere mortal and will continue too forever in time as we know it.

I know exactly what you mean. Those pink snowballs and twinkies call my name when I walk past them.
I don't know why it hasn't caught on, but drive thru convenience stores would be excellent to have around. I've only seen one once in Maine.

This is why you NEVER EVER go into a grocery store unless you have just gotten up from an all you can eat buffet. You will always come out with more than you intended....

'Nother thing that ticks me is the pre-packaged lunch meats are at the opposite end of the store from the deli counter.

I'm a list shopper, so they don't benefit from me on their set-up techniques. They don't tempt me. I buy only whats on my list, then I'm gone.

There is nothing wrong with your Safeway.
Do not attempt to adjust your shopping habbits.
We are controlling transmission.
If we wish to make the isles longer, we will make them longer.
If we wish to make them shorter, we will make them shorter.
We can reduce the focus of the prices to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity.
We will control the height of the shelves.
We will control the vertical spacing.
For the next hour, walk quietly and we will control all that you see and smell.
You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner stomach, to.......... "THE OUTER CASHIERS"

Stores hire marketing consultants to show the stores what and where to place items for consumers to buy.

And sometimes it works.

One time I went to get a few items and walked out with a crap load of junk food.

Another time I walked out with nothing-----I forgot my wallet.

I didn't know there were any Safeways left around anymore.

The stores here split the stuff....milk and dairy on one side of the store and bread products about 3/4 the way across from that.

The Safeway where we live sells beer, LOTS of wine, and even hard liquor. Yeah, their dairy is all the way in the back - and yes, it's intentional. They all do it.

Talking

That trick has been used for many years along with putting the small candy bars and overpriced drinks very close to the cash register........Little kids waiting with mommy can often be shut up if they get a candy bar (which is the last chance they have to grab before leaving) another trick stores use in in having already cooked chicken for sale. They get the chicken that is about to go past its "sell by" date and cook it,This adds a couple of more days to their ability to sell it and not be forsed to throw it out. They also put items that are overpriced in a differant location than the regular store priced items so people not knowing the store will grab it and not be able to compare prices easy....
