First, thanks to everyone who has responded to my previous posts (i.e. gear ratio, air intake). I appreciate all the advice.
What do powerstroke owners recommend as far as tuners? I own an '02 350 7.3. I pull a g.neck horse trailer which could weigh up to 13,000 lbs. I have considered the hypertech power programmer III. Does anyone have any experience with this product. Thanks in advance.

Hi and Welcome to FTE. I also have an 02 F350 7.3. I have a dually LB, CC and I have the DP Tuner with the not start, which is a good thieft deterant....stock which is good for cold weather starting, 60HP tow, which I tow my 9500# fifth wheel through the mountains, 80HP econ which gives me about 3 more MPG when I am able to keep my foot out of it, and it also puts out some awesome black smoke, and finally I have the Lope idle....good for setting still or parking lot cruising but not much driveability...sounds good but I have not been able to use it much on the road. It kinda bucked on the Interstate with the cruise engaged about 65 or so and I have not used it that way since. The tourqe converter lockup on the lope idle takes some getting used to since it locks up sooner and it feels like driving a stick. The 60tow will work fine for you cause it controls the EGT's very well and the 80 econ does what it says..better mileage if you can keep your foot out of it...so far, I have NOT been able to do much of that for sure...Good luck and DONT forget the gauges FIRST....
call Jody at dp.tuner,
and for that kinda weight, which happends to be what i tow, you will need the 40 tow for the hills and 60 to 80 tow for the flats, 80 econo is very race ready, but for an economy tune, my 40 tow gets 1 mpg better making 4 mpg gain on the high way.
along with just adding fuel and adding shift firmness as most other tuners do,
jody tunes timing, fuel, shift firmness and TC lock up timing. his tunes run hard and feel great, and they are even cheaper than the supercrap and the hyperjunk.
also, he can do custom programs if you like.
i have the DP tuner as well..it has 16 position's..you can make as many tunes as you like on it.or send it back too jody and he can add tunes later down the road..the best part is..its a shift on the fly..push the button to the setting you want 3 seconds later it switches to that tune no matter if your sitting still or on the big road at 80mph. mine is backed by a BTS valve body in the trans that makes a great combo...much better shifts...you half to tell both dp and bts you are useing there vb and chip..they have worked togather on this mod to make it the best out there..good luck with your choice and like said above..make sure you have gauges...pyro,boost and trans temps..
I had the HyperTech PPIII in my '01 7.3 since 12,500 miles. I wasn't looking for race-ready performance, just a little to help with better spool-up and better, quicker shifts. I felt the PPIII did what I wanted it to without all the gauges and other add-ons for engine and trans monitoring. I just sold my 7.3 (tears) and it had 180,000+ trouble free for the most part, miles. The PPIII of course went with the truck. New owner is quite satisfied. I am looking to maybe get one similar for my '05 6.0L. Don't know yet.
Yet another plug for DP tuner. I tried 5 different tuning combinations and finally got it right with the DP. www.dp-tuner.com
Another plug for DP Tuner. I read other's reviews and decided not to play with other combinations which struck me as a "one size fits all" thing and go straight to the DP Tuner program. I have the 60HP Tow tune and am very satisfied with it.
The information everyone has given me is great. I am now leaning towards a DP Tuner, after my I replace my air intake (Tymar), exhaust (4'') and gauges. I live in Central Wyoming and will be pulling my trailer over South Pass and Togotee Pass (el 10,000 aprx.). For people that are familar with Wyoming, there are grades, hills, etc that exist on every highway. I noticed that people pulling a similar weight on similar roads use a 40 hp tune. Will I be able to keep my EGT's down with a new intake and 4'' exhaust plus a 40hp tune?
