First impression. Twistep/Backup sensor question

Boys, last night me and a buddy installed the Twistep on my X (had to have help 'cause I screwed my back up) and here's the initial impression and a question.

First, here's how it looks http://twistep.com/model_610.htm

Let me first say. It's EXTREMELY strongly made. Solid cast iron (seems like) for most of the parts but in any case, it's all metal, heavy as hell and heavy duty.

I stepped on it myself and I'm 300lbs

Very simple to install (30 mins or less if you skip the manual which only confused us).

This thing turns out quarter or half turns so you can even have it not only facing the back but also kinda to the side. I WILL show pictures later.

By the way, it also includes a lock so they can't take it off and if you buy it through another site, it's actually a little cheaper. WELL worth the money.

Here's the ONLY problem I had. NOW when I back up, my sensors go off and I'm sure they're seeing it.

The first time when I backed up, it stopped beeping after a few seconds and I go, "cool, the sensor is learning" but that was just a temporary thing.

It DOES affect the sensor so I need suggestions on how to fix this. I DO want to keep it as I assume it WILL work for my dogs but I also want to keep my sensors on too.

George

but also an expensive idea if you get something nice. Also, it ticks me off that I HAVE to do that. Any chance I can turn two of the sensors a little bit or just disconnect the ones in the middle?

If one sensor fails (like disconnecting it) the entire system is disabled.

Only thing i could think of would be to relocate the inner 2 sensors? But that may cause problems if they see each others signals? Youd also be drilling new holes and have old empty holes in its place. Hummmm, interesting problem. Anyone know how these handy dandy lil things work, light, sound, midgets looking out from behind the lens?

On another note, my first impression is you may not be able to have any more kids of you slip off that thing the wrong way!

Hell, I only use it to pee these days anyway

Yes, it IS an interesting problem but I don't want to give up on it quite yet.
My oldest dog NEEDS it or if not this, I need something else but I haven't found anything else I like. I AM interested in other suggestions to help him enter and I do NOT like the idea of a ramp I have to get in and out all the time.

No, I don't really want to relocate the sensors and especially not leaving holes. Sure, the camera is one option but i would like to have more options.

Thanks

George

New but related question

If I want to keep the twistep at all times but still want to tow something, could I add some 2" square profile that I attach to ONE side for use say with the step while using the regular hitch for a trailer or something

Is there room, and would it be feasible?

Also, what is the best thing to get for hauling a scooter on the back. I'm thinking I can haul my scooter so I have something to drive when taking the X for service ?

It looks like this..so it's kinda fat.. http://www.tngscooters.com/images/venice_callout2.jpg

Any ideas (with links)? Should I buy a regular platform that'll hold luggage too instead?

How do they keep them from hitting the truck doors?

It's only 200lbs

Thanks

George

That doggy step hooks up buy hitch right? If it does, why dont you buy like a 2 inch lowering hitch that lifted trucks use to tow and keep there trailers level.

Can you show me with a link what you're talking about?

Thanks

Relocate the 2 inner sensors out with new holes... go to a bone yard and get two sensors to "fill" the holes. Easy fix.

Its a drop hitch. I don't know if it would work but its worth a try. They arent that expensive.

Somthing like this:

That's a ball mount, there isn't anything for this step to mount to. He needs to have a custom one made with a 2" hitch block welded on the bottom.

I just looked at it and it won't do anything for me. I simply need ANOTHER mount to use for adding something else.

As for the sensors, I can't drop this more or the step will be too low to the ground.

I'll see if I can take some pictures today.

Thanks

George

You should try to find a different step. Maybe one that folds up vertically instead of turning? I would try an RV or outdoors website.
