AFE Filter Question

A friend of mine has a new AFE Stage I filter kit for my truck that he is willing to sell to me for $100, which seems like a good deal. I have 2 questions though....

1. What is the difference between the AFE Stage I and Stage II filters (apart from price).

2. This filter looks a lot like the K&N setup, which a lot of people here say we should stay away from - does this AFE setup have similar issues to the K&N rig?

I think that the Stage II filters are physically bigger than the Stage I's, I could be wrong though as I am basing that just by looking at pictures on the AFE website.

As for the K&N comparison I can't really give an opinion except to say that I am really happy with my AFE Stage II. Great performance and filtration and the sound is cool too. I have checked the inside of the tobe post filter a couple of times and it was dust and debris free and the turbo wheel still looks good so it must be working good.

That's good to know - hopefully the Stage I filter is just as effective

I would imagine that it is just as good. I think the only difference is that it is smaller and moves a little less air. Their site is pretty cool. Link below.

Perhaps I should have looked at their site from the get-go. I see the difference now - the Stage II filter kit not only includes a larger filter (as you said) but replaces the stock intake pipe with a larger and more aerodynamic intake pipe. The Stage I kit does not include a new intake pipe.

Now that you mention it I see that on their site.
