Dodge "Longest lasting, most durable"?

His was a diesel. I don't know if they did it with the gas or not.
2000 Excursion 4x4 V10 with 99100 mi on the clock...
although I must admit, im a gasser, but not by choice. It was my mom's truck (I'm 17) before it was mine and she really didn't want to drive a diesel... at least she sprung for the 4.30's though

Actually, its funny yall mention the tranny problems. The only major issues I've had with my X have been tranny related. I total replacement, and one rebuild... The V10 is a solid motor, and can, in all honesty, pull almost the same loads as a diesel IMHO. You just can't be afraid to get it up in the 3500-4500 rpm band. And at that level or rpm's you dont get turbo whistle but you get a different whistle - the sound of your wallet deflating from getting like 7 mpg
So the gassers will pull a diesel load, just not with diesel mileage (IMHO) not to mentino no cool rumble or sound

hope that wasn't too off topic

Maybe a little off topic but nonetheless acceptable. I have routinely changed my Tranny fluid every 10,000 miles. My tranny is smooth, i don't even feel it shift somtimes (jerking)as it was when I wouldn't routinely change it. It has 130,000 smooth original miles and no major overhauls. Your mom was pretty smart to get the 4.30 although I think it was optional but great move Mom's nonetheless. Keep on Truckin'

, but neither tranny issue was just out of the blue. The first one was an incompetent dealer up in Canmore, Canada (I live in Texas lol), who misdiagnosed a slipping trans issue. They just relaced the whole transmission before they realized it was a GEM glitch, which they also eventually replaced. The second time was a blown pump seal. It was like less than a week after a trans flush, so I think that the flush dislodged some crud and eventually built up backpressure on the filter and blew the seal. From now on, I think I'll drop the pan to change it. Although it seems like its fine until I jack with it haha. But the new tranny has got almost 60K mi on it, and I tow a trailer ~3000# every other weekend or so. What kind of change intervals to you recommend?Again sorry for being off-topic

Trike1964,
If it helps for comparison, I get about 9.6 mpg with about 35% highway and 65% city. I have a V10 with 4.30's and drive pretty mildly

Trike1964 - I get the exact same mileage as Isaac. V10 4.30.
Isaac,
I would recommend flushing every 10,000 mile for Tranny, Every 3000 miles for engine oil. Radiator flush every year and etc......People are afraid to even touch the tranny becuase they think it will be damaged. On the contrary the tranny is beggin for it. Just my two cents. 130,000 smooth miles on the original tranny and motor.
