I was told that when the camshaft broke that it damaged the head. He also said that the valves were damaged but that the pistons were not. I did drive about 20 miles or better to get back home while the engine wa running like this. The reason I went here is that my family has gone here in the past without problems. It is also about a 1/2 mile from where I live.
I'll ask to see the broken camshaft when I go to pick up the truck, I didn't even know that they could break.
What is the website to where I can get a new head with valves and cam for about $400??
I'm starting to wish they used inline 300's in expeditions.
I know that JEG'S offers a 4.6 head for around $360.00. I don't beleive it included the cam thou. This is new Ford PI head. I know it is for a 4.6 but a 5.4 can't cost that much more.
ur getting ripp. dont do any work and tow it to another facility. i have noticed that with the type of trucks we have alot of mechanics including 10 minute oil changes, parking garages in new york city want to charge more.
The 5.4 and 4.6 heads are the same IIRC. The only difference between the 5.4 and 4.6 is that the 5.4 block deck height is a little taller to accomodate the longer stroke
Anyone know where I can get a cylinderhead w/valves for my 99 expidition 4.6-driver side? THe mechanic ordered the used head in, but it was the wrong one and that he can't find anymore in the country other that a refurb for $700 now.
Any websites or ph#'s? need one fast, preferably under 400 dollars or so .
rockauto.com that or check on Ebay, you can probably get 2 of them for that. The 5.4 and 4.6 are EXACTLY the same head. You can even put a drivers side 5.4 head on the passenger side of a 4.6 motor. It makes no difference..thats why they are Modular engines.
Ignore the add. To make these work on a Windsor motor, you simply order different timing cover bolts....thats it. Are your cam gears press on or bolt on. If they are bolt on then you have a Romeo motor and these are a direct bolt on. If not then you need the timing cover bolts ($20-30 and a pair fof Romeo valve covers $80 used)

Ok. The heads I have are RFX23E6090C20D. If I kept the existing passenger side head, can I use a driver side head off of any other windsor engine with PI heads? Or if I am using something different on the one side should both be swapped.
I guess what I am looking at is that on carparts.com I found several heads local that pulled up under my search, some at a place that my mechanic supposedly called already.
The heads I see listed as compatable are= 2000 exp 5.4, 2000 F150 5.4, 1999 F150 XLT 5.4 and a 2001 Ford Van.
Does anyone know if they will interchange. I asked the mechanic earlier on this and he said that the only head for a 99 expidition were off of the 99 and 2000 expiditions and mustang GT's. I thought the whole point of designing the modular engines was so that all the parts were interchangable to cut costs of production.
Your mechanic is WRONG. ANY 4.6 or 5.4 99-2004(PI) will work. It does not matter which side it came off or whether it is a Windsor or a Romeo. Yes you can use a Windsor on one side and Romeo on the other. The cam gears on Windsor heads are pressed on, ....they bolt on , on a Romeo head. And also, there are Romeo PI headed 99-00 Expys and F150's running around to add to your mechanics lack of knowledge. 1st thing you need to find out is whether or not it is a Windsor or Romeo engine....
I also need to replace timing chain in my 03 expy ( actually it one of the plastic guides) serval mechs. said its common and expensive. I have also been told by serval that I should not attempt to repair myself because it is such a big job. Has anyone ever had to remove the timing chain cover? is it really that involved?
i have to motor's a 5.4 99 and a 4.6 98 the 4.6 i would only sell the heads i belive the block is no good but who knows and the 5.4 i pulled from a scrapped f250 from a bad rear end accident... email me if u need any parts...
