Would it be stupid to take the wheel off the back and the bracket. Maybe mount the tire on the bottom like other trucks have it. Im mostly doing this for looks and a rear window graphic. Should I change it or would that ruin the tradition?
The exterior tire carrier was an option. Otherwise they had the spare inside at the rear driver's side. There was specific bracketry for this, you could probably find it in a junkyard.
I wouldnt' try to put the tire underneath, there's no room w/the big gas tank down there.
I dont believe you could mount it underneath, do to the gas tank. Plus if your offroading I would think it would hang up on things. Some broncos did not come with the outside spare carrier. The spare was located inside the truck in the very back.
I also removed the read tire carrier - filled the threaded holes with those black plastic plugs you find at any auto part store. didn't want to bondo & paint as next owner might want to re-mount the thing.
I have a Con-Ferr roof rack, so I have stowed my spare up there, 'Safari Style'. I put my cheapo tire cover over the spare and it blew off the first time I got on the freeway! Bummer! Put a chain around it for security, ans a couple of 'j' bolts to hold it firm in place.
