Ok I own a 2004 F-350 ( king of trugks) any ways. I went to the local Ford parts department and asked how much the controler was for the eletric braking. The parts person told me that although the truck is wired for it I would need to buy much more then the Ford brake controler. I would need to buy a new power boost/assist a new master cylinder the "controler" and somthingelse that I have forgot.Keep in mind that I am still waitting on the helms manual to come in, but my quiestion is why do I need all that for an eletrical system? and the other quiestion is "Has anyone installed a after market braking system? if so any prefered manufactors.
Being A Newbie To The Electric Braking Scene Also I Dont Think That You Need All That Specially If You Go After Market, I Think All You Need Is A Good Brake Controller And Time To Wire It To Your Plug In The Back And Mounting. That My Understanding. Unless You Are Goping For Factory Look Stuff Like The New Ones Are!theres My 2 Sense....cents.
I use a Kelsey electronic brake controller. I've moved it from truck-to-truck-to-truck (all Fords) and have never had a need for anything else, no additional brake components at all. It works great. I'm hauling a 20' toy-hauler, 7500lbs wet. Never an issue.
As far as I know those Integrated Brake Controllers can only be retrofitted on '05+ SD's. They do require a new master cylinder, but that comes with the Ford kit. They also need to have the PCM programmed to identify the IBC.
Personally I use a Prodigy (Tekonsha are the same people that helped Ford design the IBC) and love it.
Yep. For your '04, you'll want the Tekonsha Prodigy, along with the Ford adapter harness (Assuming your truck is already wired with a 7 pin trailer plug).
Total install time is about 5 minutes. 1 to plug it into the harness under your dash, 3 to screw the Prodigy bracket to the lower dash, 1 to turn it on and configure it.
And just to clarify, EnviroCon is right. I think your dealer is smoking something, or just confused. The integrated towing system he's thinking of is only later than '04. Your only option (basically speaking) on your '04 is a brake controller like the Prodigy.
I pull a 32' 6500lb travel trailer and it works great.
Prodigy in the cubby hole worked good until I got the banks PDA. But hookup takes no time. I pull three trailers (not all at once) 5,000 - 13,000#. Prodigy works great.

Ahhhhh....you've got the exact same problem as me. That crazy Banks PDA holder is designed to go NOWHERE but on the cubbyhole lip !!!
Where did you move your's to? Min is mounted on that large removeable panel just underneath the steering column. It's high enough that it doesn't interfere with legroom, but I'm looking for other options.
I put the controller just below the PDA, and now can not see it without moving my head, but it is pretty much a set and forget thing.
Isn't the PDA slick, and a lot of fun. On power level 6 and performance test 1/4 mile I run into the speed limiter before the 1/4 mile is up.
I have used SL but I have a hard time getting traction unless in 4wd.
The speed limiter can be removed, I would also like quicker/harder shifts. But that may be because I did not follow/read instructions and jumped right to 6.
Ok so I’ll I do is spend the 99 to 124 dollars and the prodigy will plug right in and be ready to go. I should also say that it is a 04 F-350 FX4 4x4 LB SC PSD it does have the 7 pin plug
