Talking superchips 1815 tuner

just to let everyone know superchips has the flaspack tuner #1815 available for the 05 and up v10 3v motors they claim 43hp and over 50ft lbs of torque tire size adjust, rear gear adjust but no rev limiter adj or shift firmness. rev limiter can be eliminated and internet updateable i have used superchips before and they do what they say they do it should really wake up the v10

Now maybe someone can steer me straight. I'm kicking around the idea of a tuner as I have a little extra tax money coming back. I'm seeing different tuners for the 04 FSeries w/ a V10. SCT's website calls for an 1815 for the 04's but I'm still seeing 1714's around. Will either one work? Should I choose one over the other for any particular reason? I like the idea of the SCT program due to the fact I can recalibrate the speedo for my 35's. I know I'm not going to get a huge power increase but for the same $$$, the DiabloSport doesn't correct for this, at least that I can tell. Anybody got any input??

Sorry Ron

went to the link

Put in data for a F350 6.8L 2005 and came to the "Flashpaq" PN#1815 link...

bad mojo when the add is full of BS and hype

Where is the shift point change for the 5R110w?

Recalibrate for gear changes... WHY? (tire diameter yes)

No rev limit adjustment

Sorry but I am having a real hard time seeing just what $500 plus gains anyone with a 3v v10 motor followed by a TorqShift 5R110w auto trans

3 programs that are not described or defined??? no mention of octane fuel requirement

claim of more power and increased fuel ecomomy.... I am having a real hard time believing that based on the rest of the hype in the ADVERT

Hey RUBICON...get one and do a before and after report please!

i wont be able to get the tuner right now just spent over 450 on shocks and ss but hope to get it soon . i will agrree very limited to what it does but i do like being able to adjust for tire size as im in the near future going to 37x12.50r17 bfg mud terrains would like to get sppedo corrected as im off 5mph ast 60mph with the 35s and hopefully superchips will allow for shift pts, shift pressure and other things to be allowed to the v10 tqs system my sct is useless but im wllling to go out on a limb and say superchips has it done right plus 43 hp is a big gain on the v10 how bout it we both get one and give reviews 30 day money back guarantee

I had used a Superchips tuner in an F150 with the 4.6...fortunately, it does have the 30 day return option with no questions asked. After two weeks, I knew it was going back.

The mpg were exactly the smae, except I had to run PREMIUM fuel on the performance or towing settings....the "seat of the pants" dyno showed a dismal gain in performance.

The trans programming was the main reason I dumped it...in low speed/normal driving, it did shift a little firmer, which was fine. But, hit the throttle hard and the transmission would shift like it was trying to remove itself from the truck.

I began driving it in a manner that would prevent me from getting on the throttle, just so I would not screw up the tranny.

I guess for hard core racing it is fine, but I honestly would NOT put one in my truck now if it was given to me for free...and that's the absolute truth.

It's interesting to hear these reports.

I've never owned one of these new-fangled tuners, but I've had a few Superchips "chips" (the actual plug-in and leave it there kind). The chips have always performed as advertised. In fact, my wife refused to drive her '97 Expedition w/4.6L engine unless the chip was installed. And, if you look through the how-to docs here, you'll find an article I wrote on how to install a chip into a '93 F150. The chip made that dog of a 5.0 into a much more enjoyable performer.

Guess these tuners just aren't as good as the old chips... or the manufacturers aren't leaving much extra performance on the table.

Interesting point.....

I am thinking that the OEM folks are doing such a good job today that there may not be too much that can be done by the aftermarket.

For example, the 3 valve V10 has an outstanding exhaust from the factory...all kins of HP and torque.

Also, the air intakes for the new V10 make almost no change in the performance....

Years ago, the aftermarket folks had something to work with that needed a little "tweeking"...todya, the factory seems to have done a much better job...just my opinion.

I find it very hard to believe 43hp & 53lb ft from a gas tuner. But I guess someone will plunk down the dough and find out if the claims are true. Wish I could but I only have a lowly 2-valve.

A 405hp / 510lb ft V10 in a regular cab, 2WD, auto w/4.30LS would be lots of fun!

Just saw that we've finally got a date scheduled for a OK chapter dyno day. So, if anyone wants to send me a tuner, I'll pay for the dyno test to see how much (if any) it helps the 3V V10.

As I recall, the ad says UP TO 43 HP and UP TO 50 lbs of torque....

I view all the hype as meaning anything from zero to 43 HP...

I recall a Hypertech ad the indicated up to 150 HP...in the fine print it said it was for the diesel, but the ad showed an F150 with a gas engine...they tried to fool me...can you beleive it??

I spent the $$$ on the Superchips to see if it would help the shifting during towing the 9,200 lb 5th. It works great for that, BUT there's no way I see 43hp & 53lb-ft increase !!!! Thats the sales pitch. If you got the $$$ try it, like davzog said you got 30 days to return it...

Actually it doesn't...at least on http://www.superchips.com/home.phtml They make it sound like a fact.

I bought the SCT SF 9415B for my 04' v10 and it is by far the best for the money IMO. You can adjust more parameters with the SCT than the Superchips or any other programmer as well as read/clear codes, hook it up to a laptop and run the truck on the street and its updateable with custom tunes from the dyno at a local SCT dealer. I ordered mine from Jeg's for $380. Superchips and SCT are the same company they just have different product lines.
