Break in procedures

I will be picking up an '08 CC SuperDuty 4x4 when I get back from a deployment in June. I have a family camping trip planned, towing an 11k lb trailer, and am wondering what procedures the factory reccomends for break-in?

I would put about 500 miles on it prior to towing more for the rear end than anything

I'd give her 1000 miles before towing anything heavy. Diesels are not fully broken in until around 20,000k miles

Procedure #1***I Salute you, thank you for your service Sir!***
Procedure #2*** Enjoy your family****

Then like said above, give it 500-100 miles and a chance for the parts to run in before you load it up!
then refer to procedure #2

It is in your Diesel Supplement of your Owner's Manual.

NEW VEHICLE BREAK-IN
Your vehicle does not need an extensive break-in. Try not to drive

continuously at the same speed for the first 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of

new vehicle operation. Vary your speed to allow parts to adjust

themselves to other parts.

Drive your new vehicle at least 500 miles (800 km) before towing a

trailer. Make sure you use the specified engine oil by checking the engine

oil specification chart under
Engine oil in the Maintenance and

Specifications
chapter.

Do not add friction modifier compounds or special break-in oils during

the first few thousand miles (kilometers) of operation, since these

additives may prevent piston ring seating. See
Engine oil in the

Maintenance and Specifications
chapter of this supplement for more

information on oil usage.

Thanks for all the responses (and support) I just placed the order for my new truck last week. Got a pretty good deal through the Exchange New Car Sales. I think I'll try and put a good 1000 miles on the truck, and change the oil before I do any camping.

Here is a link to the break-in procedure posted in the "6.0 tech folder" see posts #5 & 6, this will work for any diesel engine.

BH620-

Thanks for the link. Since I want to keep my new truck for at least the next 10 years, this was very helpful in planning out how to break-in a new truck that will be reliable and be the most efficient that it possibly can be.

10 years will be no prob for a diesel, once you get past the break in period just do regular fluid changes, keep it washed, don't let salt stay on it for long (if you get snow), just normal maintanance will help keep the truck goin for 10 years, at least...
