well i called the local dealership today to see about having the timing checked on my truck the diesel guy there told me there was no such thing has timing on a diesel, diesel dont need timing
That would give me enough of a HEADS UP not to want to go there......... Find an IH dealer or shop that is a Stanadyne affiliation.....they will direct you, if they do not do them.
you should have told the service guy "Hey! Ford Service GURU, if they dont need timing, then why does the the decal on my valve cover state a timing value" It pisses me off because I applied to be a ford service tech before and was told "you have no college training, so NO! we are not interested!"
I had tons of experience and the will to learn, but they shrugged me off, and it seems every time I take my 06 Mustang in, the service guys are dumb as a box of rocks. True college grads I guess? If that is what College does for you, then I think I will stick with my life experiences and skip on the college training...LOL
i got a smart dealer service department story for ya. i took the 7 litre in for an oil change, cause the garage was full, and it was wet and snow outside. the exact words out of the service dept managers mouth=="we can't change the oil on that. it is to old, and we do not have filters in stock for anything that old"
thats when i asked him if he could change the oil on a 79 F350 with a 460. he said sure. so i told him to get a 79 F250 460 oil filter, and put it on the car. he looked at me with a dumb look, and said that a 460 and a 7 litre are not compatible.
when i explained that ford has only used 2 spin on oil filters in the past 50 years, a metric, and standard thread, he gave me a deer in the headlights look.
lucky for me, an older mechanic was walking into the service office to drop off a set of keys, so he just took over and left the service manager looking like the idiot he was.

yeah well i use to work in the body shop for a ford dealer took my vaction came back had a note on my time card go see the owner,so i went told me sales was down and had let me go i went back to get my stuff his 3 sons was doing my job none the less i flew off the handle like crow full of you know what so to this day i will not go there for service at all. none the less the new guys in there if they cant plug it up to a computer they cant fix it. but the old school on old diesel stills applies to all diesel engines today and in the future. they all might be computrized but they all have the same stlye moving parts.
Well, not eveyone with a college degree is an idiot. I happen to have a couple myself. 'Course I spent ten years in the school of hard knocks between highschool and college.
However, like ncfirefighter46's signature line says...
YOU CAN'T FIX STUPIED (actually STUPID)....
....even with a college education. Stupid is still stupid.

Yep, it takes both types to make the world go round ... and those of us who have a degree and like to get our hands dirty are the true masters.
