Ok. I just read all SEVEN pages on this in the Super Duty forum. Wow.
So, if Ford and IH call it quits, what would you like to see in the SD? What would you not want to see in the SD?
It is hard to compare the many moter options out there because all the cool engines are for the big rigs. I like the Mercedes that goes into a lot of Sterlings. There are tons of guys who love Cat, Detroit, Volvo, Cummins, Deere, etc but not too many have anything that would quickly go into a wun tun. Some may. My bro works at Cummins and he says, "we do have a V6/V8 developed, that Dodge told us to "ensure that it will install in anything a Hemi fits in" ". But they are not putting it in anything yet...
there arnt to many major brands left...toyota has the cat car in nascar...ford already has cat in there big 650-750 trucks....hopefully they wont pick a chinese diesel. Rumor has it cat isnt interested in "mass" producing engines on a level for ford..but if a ford struts a cat c7....im in.
Here is a novel idea, how about Ford make their own and quit blaming Navistar for all of the 6.0 issues.
I don't think you'd ever see that. It would cost too much to get the engine plant up and running. They'd have to charge 100K for each truck just to pay to make it happen.
Here is another novel idea, use one of the plants they want to close the doors on. They already own it. As for the re-tool cost, pennys on the dollar to what they are making off these trucks.

All kidding aside, I don't think there is another motor out there that can compare to what International has done for Ford over the years. Ford better kiss and make up. They will be the losers, not international.
