Not the case with the 2.3L. It is a NON-INTERFERENCE engine, so there is clearance between the valves and piston with the piston at TDC, and the valve is open all the way.

I cant get the damn crankshaft pulley off...whats the trick?

You may need a puller. They are not a press fit, but after they have been on there for a while, they might as well be. A light tapping with a hammer while pulling against it will sometimes break it loose. jd
