A while back, I did the Hutch/Harpoon mod with the kit from ITP. Is the rubber fuel hose in their kit compatible with biodiesel. I've been reading about biodiesel and the problem of it eating rubber fuel hose on vehicles made before 1996. I would think a modern fuel hose would not have a problem but I figured I would ask for advice. I'm looking over the installation manual from ITP and there is no real information about the hose supplied. Thanks Mark
I live not to far from Dennis. He has for the last year kept a couple pieces of hose in MY home brew BD. washed and unwashed. The hose he uses has shown NO deterioraton in over a years time soaking in it. He recently pulled the hoses out to test for shrinkage and or cracking. None of the above. I also called Southwest rubber. (A hose manf and distributer here in PHX) I asked them about the hose he uses and they said that there should be absolutley no problem with its use with BD. There should be no deterioration and or weeping of the fuel line Dennis uses. I just did the hutch and harpoon mods yesterday, and I used Dennis's kit and so I did some leg work on my own to find out that info for fact as to also compare it to Dennis's observation in soaking the hose in my fuel. I hope this helps
Thanks, I've been running Biodiesel and every site about biodiesel talks about older vehicles and biodiesel eating through the rubber hoses. You would figure a modern fuel hose wouldn't have a problem.
You are correct. However some hoses are more permiable then others. As for deterioration the modern fuel line is synthetic and stands up to the BD. But BD will permiate some fuel line. Should not be the case with the fuel line Dennis uses
That's OK. I've been having a discussion off and on today with a co-worker about hose material and bio-compatability. I'm not running bio, so it's not really a true "need to know". I wouldn't even spend the time looking it up when you get home. Just thought I'd ask.
Hey TNT... didn't you just "happen to have an extra 6637" sitting beside you the other night when someone was asking about dimensions and fit with their existing intake setup? Or am I remembering someone else?
It must have been someone that looks like you, then (or your avatar, at least).
Seriously, though, not to hijack, but the other night some guy was asking about the dimensions on the extruded end of the 6637, and within a few minutes someone else piped in with the exact dimensions, saying that he "just happened to have one sitting beside him" at his computer. Your quick response with the exact info on that scrap of hose reminded me. Funny.
Yep... it was good timing, too!! You don't look at ALL like TNT, though! Must have been that your avatar's truck and his avatar's pup have the same "perked up" look about them. Who knows... maybe I'm farther down the road to crazy than I thought I was.
