Convert to manual Trans?
Did 78 or 79 Broncos ever come with manual transmissions? Would I be completely nuts to want to convert my 78 Frod Bronco Custom 4x4 to a manual tranny? Would it even be possible

Possible yes, nuts...not totally, but it is a lot of work, although a lot less if you have donor vehicle rather than looking for specific parts. You'll need to have the transmission (t-18 or np 435 came with Fords around that year but I am not sure which came in the 78 Bronco...I think the t-18, you could also look into a zfs-542(5spd)), you'll need the bellhousing, clutch linkage, clutch, clutch pedal, shorten/lengthen driveshafts, modify trans crossmember, modify linkage for the t-case and remember that the t-case must bolt up to the tranny as well as work with the transmission output shaft spline count. And of course the shifter and the whole in the floor. I will be doing this swap within the next couple months on my 78 Bronco with a 72 f-250 donor truck with all necessary parts and even a built 400. Good luck.

Would be the best Mod you could do if youre into serious 4x4'ing.The 205 transfer case will bolt up to a T-18 or a NP435.The 435 has a lower first gear than the T-18 either one is a good bullet proof tanny though
