I need to know what i need to do about the vin when I swap the cab off the 74 to the 77?
Both Trucks have 9" rear ends which i need to swap also, but the 77 had trak-lok and the 74 doesnt any problems with this swap.both have same ratio 3.5
When you swap the cabs just keep the door tag with the title. A lot of trucks that have had doors/cabs swapped forgot to swap the tag so title vs tag vin don't match.
Swapping the axles shouldn't be a problem, both being 9" you could probably swap the centers instead of complete axles.
I would say you use the Frame Vin of the 77 as cabs are more changed than a chassis.
Take the Rating plate off the 77 door and put it on the 76 door that is going on the 77 chassis.
Ran into a few more problems over the weekend, the 77 driveshaft had been removed and i finally took a close look at it and noticed it was bent like a banana, what to do???
had some time off work today and went to a local junk yard and found a similar driveshaft, the only one they had like it, one piece w/cv joint.
the 77 i have is a SWB, the shaft i got was supposedly for a 77 LWB but it is a 1/2" shorter???
Note: the bent shaft looks to have been built by a local shop, my clue is that the welds don't look factory-lots of slag, Pipe looks larger in diameter also.
