installing towing reciever ??

I am wanting to install a towing reciever on my bronco but I noticed that there are no holes on the frame. If I was to drill the holes would I need to remove the gas tank?? It just looked hard to work around but maybe someone has installed one and could give me a few tips.

Thanks

What I did was go to UHaul and buy the receiver. When I found out I had to drill holes, uhal said they would do it for $20. They used a hude air drill on a press jack and basically lifted my bronco with the drill. If I where to do it myself with my 18volt dewalt and big bit, it would have taken forever and a soar arm. For $20 more it was well worth it.

Good Luck
Mike

I just installed a class 3 Hidden Hitch receiver on an '82. No, you don't need to remove the gas tank to drill the holes. I used a titanium 1/2" bit and a Dewalt cordless drill. The only thing that was difficult in installing was getting the bolts to feed through. There's not much room with the gas tank installed to thread the bolts in from the top. I used a wire puller (any piece of flexible material will do) ran some fishing line through it, tied to the bolt and pulled the bolt over the top and through the hole. It was a little tedious, but a lot less work in my opinion than pulling the gas tank.
Hope this helps.
