Expedition Mystery???

Okay, this is strange. My wifes 2000 Expedition went a little nuts. She went to put into 4H on a slick road. The truck suddenly showed she was doing about 60, when she was really doing about 10. I drove it, it seems like it's stuck in 4L, but its not showing the light, it's in 2wd, and the speedo goes nuts. Oh, and it only do about 20mph. Any thoughts??

A quick thing to try is to disconnect the battery for about 10 mins and then reconnect. See if that resets the computer.

Isn't the speedometer on these based on the transmission and not the wheels?

That is definitively the way it is acting! I'm hauling it to the dealer tomorrow, but if you guys have anymore input, let me know!

I know sometimes in my exp (2000 as well) i have to place it in neutral for a few seconds after turning off the 4wd for it to disengage. Wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

I'll give that a try before I stick it on the trailer. Thanks!

You cannot place the tranny in 4L unless you are in Neutral. You cannot put it in 4L on the fly, this only works for 4H.
