Ever noticed how when you do a mod to the truck it can cause another problem. Or reveal another problem?
Well I hutched and harpooned the tank yesterday. Drove the truck to work today. The motor at idle didn't seem any quieter. But, at freeway speeds it is much quieter. Now I hear the tires. Crap. Something else I need to figure out. Just kidding. I do hear them now but I am running wrangler silent armors and they are really quiet. Just the motor is so much quieter that I can hear them a little. Radio is about two notches lower too as it doesn't need to over come the injector sounds.
As far as revealing problems, yeah I can relate. Last time I added more mods to my truck I found 2 oil leaks, a cracked fuel bowl, and a coolant leak.
Isn't it nice to ride in a quieter truck? The sound of a diesel is great, but I'd rather have that as background noise instead of drowning out the radio and conversation in the cab.
the foil delete mod is one that I will never do to my truck infact thinking of figuring out how to add more insulation, I mean really why would you want to reheat the air that you just ran through your intercooler to cool off?
Forgive my ignorance, but what mod did you do to quiet it down? I've heard of the oil line between the rails but wasn't sure if this is what you were talking about. Thanks
reheat the air that you just ran through your intercooler to cool off?
Actually the Foil is on the hot side pipe pre intercooler.
Aaron they are talking about the Hutch Mod. You remove the mixing chamber in the tank and eliminate air intrusion into the fuel system from there, quieting the injectors.

The foil is on the hot side of the innercooler. It hasn't been cooled yet. As a matter of fact it is probably hotter due to compressed air heats up. Without the foil it will probably cool faster then with it on. I cannot prove the cooloing part but it is fact that compressed air is hotter and that is why they added the inner cooler to begin with.

The mod I am refering to is called the hutch mod. It is a modification to the fuel pickup and return valve in the fuel tank. Dennis at ITP diesel sells a complete kit with great instructions, all the parts and no trips to the hardware store for parts. His kit also comes with a filter that goes in-line prior to the fuel pump makes for a nice secondary fuel water seperator before the fuel ever gets to the pump or the stock filter. Look it up. Nice set-up
Thanks, I just read his other thread about missing the umbrella and kinda figured out what he was talking about. At first I thuoght hutch and harpooning the tank was some figure of speech I didn't understand. Does this mod do any thing besides quiet it down, sorry I haven't searched yet, but I will read up on it tonight, sounds easy and interesting. I wouldn't mind doing it to my Excursion. Do the obs trucks have the same setup in the tanks?

It quiets it down because of less air going through your injectors. Its like injector insurance, because the injectors will operate much better with all fuel and no air.
Theoretically it could, Due to it is supposed to increase throttle response and help ensure each injector is getting fuel rather then air, thus meaning less throttle is needed for acceleration and to maintain speed. So yes it should help a very small amount in theory. I will watch and see over the next few months. However I have also recently added a new TN turbo and other mods too. Soon to come is the ITP regulated return so I will be able to know over all mileage increases etc. maybe not so much the exact amount each mod has changed mileage.
