I own a 94 E250 Super Cargo van with 175,00 miles on an inline 6 cyl. 4.9. C6 Trans, no overdrive. The motor recently developed a knock . I found out its either a wrist pin or a broken skirt on # 3 piston. I have a few options and wanted some advice from forum members. Does anyone know of a good ford engine builder (company)? I wanted to know what must be removed (front end) to replace the motor? Also, can I replace that inline 6 with a V8? If so, what must I change to make this happen. I also have a chance to purchase a 2000 E350 Super van with the triton V8 for around 4500.00. Problem is it has 162,00 on it, but its in mint shape. What is the pros and cons of the inline 6 compared to the Triton V8? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks guys.
Seriously believe it or not, the 300inline 6 is a very bulletproof engine, and i'm surpriesed to hear that yours went to heck on you. If you put a v-8 in it you will need to change computers and all the wiring harness stuff, cats... You would be better off buying the 2000. It depends on your needs too. I would say if you really want a v-8 just buy the 2000. if your happy with your 300, and dont mind the no overdrive, then stick with the 4.9. You could probably save yourself some money by fixing it yourself if you can do that sort of work. I think the newer v-8 would probably get better gas mileage too.
