carb help

i just replaced the distributor in my bronco-beast, but it still running like crap. the timing is on, but it is still running rough at low rpm's. i am running a stock 2-barrel carb that i think is leaking on the throttle side(the idle adjuster and surrounding areas are covered in gas). it isn't a bad leak, but a leak is a leak, right? first should i rebuild the carb that is on there, or should i just buy a new one? second, if i do get a new one what kind of carb is good that will fit my manifold? thanks for your help.

I am not sure what you have for a motor but I would replace the carb and manifold. Go with a four barrel I like holleys but edelbrock makes a manifold and a carb that is kind of a package deal that I have heard works great. Believe it or not but you will get better gas miliage with a four barrel as long as your not punching the gas every where you go. (but what fun is that?)

Before replacing everything, I'd probably try a rebuild. Might be as easy as a dried out gasket or sticky float. If you've never done a carb rebuild, the 2 barrel is a good one to start with. Then sometime, if you want to move up to a 4v, you can go to the salvage yard and pick up a Ford Holley 4v with the mixture caps still on for next to nothing. Rebuild it and have a real carb you don't have to mess with instead of the Edle option of tuning monthly and worrying about passing smog checks. Check out the condition of the intake gaskets as well, it's very easy to see the carb leaking but a lot of times it's multiple problems like intake leak, vacuum or EGR valve.
