No spark blues...

I have a 1988 Bronco II, Im getting NO spark from my coil. Its a problem that started as a very bad miss and stall, then nothing. It wont even hit one lick. I've checked my coil, my rotor is turning on the distributor. So is it the stator, or the computer?!?!

Everytime this happens to me (I have an 86 bought in 89) I usually wind up replacing evey blasted component in the ign. system. I have figured that usually if a dist module goes bad, it takes the computer as well.

Hope this helps!

You might try looking in the "read first" thread at the top of this forum, and look
under "TFI IV troubleshooting. That could locate the problem if it is related to
the distributor or coil.

Well, the last time something like this happened, it was the coil. I replaced it, and it fired right up. I decided to replace all the gaskets, freeze plugs, seals, etc. about 3 months ago. At that time I replaced the Ignition module, all ignition components, accept the the distributor and stator. I did however put in a new ignition module, so Im looking at possibly stator, or computer. Thanks for the info, I hope I dont have to replace something I just bought. Know what I mean?

It might be worthwhile to borrow a computer to make a cd-rom to get that info.
If you could read the codes on the on board computer that might eliminate that as
a problem. The ignition module could well be bad again. It does not come up on
the codes, so the troubleshooting guide would be the only way to determine if it is
the problem without having to replace it, or then the stator. It could eliminate some
frustration.

My experience with TFI ignitions, when you lose spark, it's usually 1) the module on the distributor, 2) the distributor internal components or distributor itself, 3) water inside the distributor or ignition system, or 4) the computer (or the wiring to / from the computer or ignition wiring).

More info on testing / troubleshooting can be found here:

Hope this helps
