OK, Ford was really thinking about repairs when they designed the electric locks and windows. How do I remove the electric locking solenoid from the passenger door and replace it. I don't have a clue. I found it interesting that the previuos owner of my 1990 ford bronco had to drill his own holes in the sheetmetal in order to repair the electric window motor. Just another gripe, I can't believe they make you replace the whole wiring harness for the tailgate window motor just to replace the switch in the tailgate. What a bunch of bull. Any help with the locks would be appreciated.
Well, it is my understanding that the lock actuators need to be drilled out as well. I guess they are never supposed to break! Ha ha, yeah right. Now I have a question for you...even if you do decide to drill them out, where do you plan on buying the nbew actuator? Ford sells them, but they might as well point in your face and laugh. They want over $100 for one!!! As for me, I'm justr fine using my key to open the door. If you know where to get one for cheaper, let me know please! Thanks and good luck.
You can p-u a lock actuator at a junk yard for $10-20. You do have to drill out the rivet. When replacing, use a 1/4" - 20 x 1/2" flathead screw with a nylock nut.
YA KNOW WHEN MY LOCKS FAILED I WAS ABLE TO SPREAD THE TANGS THAT HOLD THE ACUATOR MOTOR IN JUST ENOUGH TO SLIP THE MOTER OUT OF THE PLKASTIC MOUNT. IT WAS A LITTLE TOUGH TO GET IT BACK IN. FORD SURE HAS NERVE CHARGEING 100.00 BUCKS FOR THAT STINKING MOTOR DONT THEY. I WAS ABLE TO BEND THE BACK OF THE MOTOR AND TAKE IT APART AND CLEAN IT BUT WHAT A PAIN TO PUT BACK TOGETHER. I AM A CHEAP SKATE THOUGH . GOOD LUCK
DON'T DRILL OUT THE RIVET!!! The actuator can be removed and replaced by simply slipping it off the mount. Once you've done one, they are easy. The hardest part is getting your hand in there.
