I ordered a 2007 E350 van to be converted to a 4x4 camper. The 4x4 has been installed, but I still haven't paid for the van. The van has about 10 miles on it. According to the conversion company and the Ford dealer, a rattling sound was noticed in the transmission at speeds of about 60 mph. They diagnosed the problem as a grooved planetary assembly and suggested the a shim or whatever had not been assembled incorrectly at the factory and that the assembly was loose. The dealer down-played the wear and said that no metal filings were observed and that it's not a big deal. The Ford dealer said they'd have their best transmission mechanic do the work. According to the service manager they have order the following parts: low and intermediate sun gears, bushing, coast clutch hub, all clutches and seals.
I've insisted on a new transmission before I would take delivery. They've balked. Could you give me some idea of what you'd do in this situation. It's taken 4 months to get this far along in the process, and if they don't agree on the new tranny, we'll have to order another van and it's back to square one.
I would tell them to give you a new trans, because the van is new. My friend had a trans go bad in a GM motor home, and it was under warranty. GM gave him a new trans. I was involved in this, as I checked on the motor home at the dealer for my friend, and saw that the trans was new. Let the dealer send that trans back to Ford, and see what really happened. Good luck!
Welcome to FTE Dan! Sorry to hear about your troubles. I moved your post to the Full Size Vans forum. Will maybe get more help here. Enjoy your stay and good luck.
If I were you I'd tell them to just forget about the van and you'll go order a Chevy instead. I'd also throw in their faces that customer service is part of the reason Ford just posted it biggest loss in history. I'd also tell them that the 6.6L GM Diesel with that Allison tranny is looking mighty tempting, see if that changes their tone about things.
danevans - you said they baulked at a new transmission. What are they planning to do to rectify the issue?
In your posistion, it would be advantageous to speak to the Ford Customer Relationship Centre, outlining your issue, how it affects you, and what you want from them (a new transmission)
Phone Number: (800) 392-3673
They are also good at giving the dealer the old hurry up too
Thanks for your input. It looks like l'll get a new transmission. Your suggestions were most appreciated and helped bolster my insistance on a new trans.
