I remember about four years ago reading the same comments from people...
A chebby???? If I were you, Ford would be making my first truck payment for me. I have a feeling this is a sign of future problems to come. Rudolf Diesel would be rolling over in his grave if he saw how the EPA turned his wonderful invention into a engine with a buch of stupid EPA devices on it. I f I were to graduate from college tommorow, Get a great paying job, and have a brand new 6.4 handed to me for free, I would sell it and build-up my 7.3 strong! When you buy a new 6.4, youre buying a stockholder designed peice of crap. IOW- the stockholders want profits thus ford says we can build it cheaper to please them.
The proof is in the puddinn, ex. when ford switched to powder medal rods. What were they thinking? Any engineer with a degree knows the failing point of PMR's. Who made that call???? Idiots. That is where it started. That mentality will be displayed in the 6.4.
You watch! ex. Now you have to carry a 10,000 ft elictrical cord to reach from your house to the bar your truck is parked at becuase the truck will blow up if a.) its 20 deg. or below, and b.) you have to have it plugged in for at least three hours before you can even THINK about driving. I dont know about you but i do not make enough money to stay at a bar for three extra hours waiting for a brand new truck to warm up off of elictricity I'm pulling from my house through 10,000 feet of elictrical cord that you have to keep on a roll in the back of the truck.
When ford announced its 12 billion loses it was just fake-crying becuase it should have lost 24 billion in profits if it would have recalled the 6.0 and FIXED them right! Instead they screwed us all. We are no longer customers, we are mice in a cage beeing fed a load of crap. I'm gonna go hug my 7.3 now.

BTW, stopped at the local dealer to see a new 08' 6.4L. (I saw it getting unloaded two days prior). All 4 salesman didnt even know that they had a 6.4L on there lot. What a joke! Its (6.4) debut in my neck of the woods was unanounced and made even worse by the sales people representing the product FOMOCO sells.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. The last time I saw similar attitude was when I was frequenting a Mopar message board and reading about how "real" Chargers have 2 doors.
...HP is limited on all models to 325 during regen process.
Would you (not directed at you jare) have said 10 years ago if you heard that your Powerstroke was going to be limited to only 325 hp during an automated maintenance? Yeah, progress sucks
pullinair....great post...im right with you...i went to my local dealer and i knew more about the truck and everything in it than anyone who worked there...it was a joke and i went there excited to hear there opinion and insite on the truck and they had none...but it was funny because i while back when i bought my truck i asked the guy if he seen spy shots of the new SD and he swore up and down till a few months ago that ford was not making a new SD that since they "redisigned " it in 05 that they werent changing ti for a while...i love going to dealerships knowing more than them...ill admit i got a little hosed on this truck i have now and i wish i would have gotten the v10...i love the looks and everything is perfect for me but it seems i settled...but then again i didnt have the money to get exactley what i want...but now talking to everyone here and taking in all the info...after all info is free so why not take it? i know alot!!! more and next time i wont feel like im going to a gun fight with a knife...thank you everyone and my next truck will be a decked out f350 CC LB lariat v10...if the v10 is still aorund in 3 years...
My posts are a little fuzzy but I got my point across (spring break started today at school, its beer 30!). I would also like to add the If the big 4 (automakers) invested in a third party (independent) research division, we would not be seeing the major flukes in u.s based auto production.
The major foriegn auto makers have proved time and time again by setting as little as 2% of their profits aside to have an indepent research company tear down their vehicles find, and diagnose problems helps allot! They are the leaders of true maintanance free vehicles.
Our Ego driven big 4 auto makers would never and have never done anything like that and goes to prove that job security is not #1 in thier eyes. Time will tell. Just remember -as a buisiness owner-If your not doing more firing than hiring, than your wrong!
The Japanese auto makers are looking at using a planetary style transmission behind the generators that will charge the batts on electic cars. Almost identical to the style of tranasmission used on the Model-T. Virtually indestructable and hardly any moving parts. As soon as they figure out the right kind of oil to use, they are going to be onto something.
IOW- There are manufacturers that are moving forward with things and there is Ford and its rivals who think that by putting a crappy tranny behind a crappy motor on a large framed vehicle with tiny braking systems, slap a jazzy color on the body, throw a 40,000 sticker on it becuase every one has a false sense of security in the economy becuase the governtment misleads us on the Federal Reserve Level.
Sorry to toataly hi-jack your thread but its not like anyone will kn ow how to fix an '08 truck that has 300 miles on it that should be on the road instead of being at the stealership where they will hold a disection class for their "trained mechanics" to figure out how to pop the hood open.
I would dump that truck off at the stealership, throw the keys at the salesman, and never look back. Wake up the next morning and begin my search for a 7.3 with 20,000 miles on it, or something else to your liking.(they are out there).

Most of us on this forum know more than the average car salesperson. Why does that suprise anyone. I almost always know more than the people that I buy from, whether we are talking about Boats, Home Theater Equipement or Superdutys. Why? because I do a ton of homework before I purchase and I enjoy it because I am interested in these "toys"
Also, I hardly think the 6.4 is junk and the 6.0 wasn't junk either. Did the early versions have some issues? Yes. Did it improve? Yes! Before I bought mine, I talked to hundreds of owners. Everytime I saw a person at a gas station, at a Red light, at the store, at a Nascar race, at a boat launch, etc. I NEVER ran into a single person that had an issue. I did however hear about problems from this forum and I did talk to a few friends that are on the engineering side of Ford. They told me what issues they were having and what they were doing about it. I also talked to one of the techs at my local dealership and got his feedback. With all the info in hand, I made my decision to buy the 6.0 and haven't looked back since. I love my truck and enjoy driving it. The build quality and fit and finish are light years above my 03 F350 and when the time comes I will be ponying up for the 6.4 as well.
Finally, getting back to the original thread. Sorry your truck died right away, but it happens as their are electronics and mechanical parts inside. No matter how good something is, it is subject to failure, just like a TV, light bulb, toaster, microwave, boat motor, so on and so on and so on...
still dont have my truck back yet.ford doesnt know whats wrong yet.they rented me a cheby for a loaner!im getting a little pissed.
Yea right a new ford owner having a ford dealership actually have to go and rent and then have to rent a chevy for a new ford vehicle owner..
This has to be odd for a ford dealership to not put you into a ford rental ford loaner ford only right
I'm scratching my head hoping your not serious.
