I just bought a eddie bauer overhead console with the compass and outside temp sensor. I installed it already but cant seem to figure out how to calibrate the compass. Does anyone out there now the procedure to calibrate? Also is the compass just a built in unit or do I need some kind of sensor like I need for the outside temp guage.if someone out there has a owners manuel with this information hopefully you can help me
Did your Bronco have any of the plugs and wires for the overhead console?
I'm getting an Expedition overhead console and my XLT doesn't have anything up ahead. SO I want to figure a way to make it work.
Anyone with ideas?
Yes the compass seems to work but I was wondering if it needed to be calibrated. So screwy do you have a owners manuel? Have you ever had to calibrate your compass? I bought my overhead console at a junk yard. Had to install it my self. I know that I need to buy a sensor for my outside temp guage but if anyone out there knows that the compass is self contained and doesnt have any other sensor please let me know.
At first guess, I would think the compass would be self-contained and that you would not need to calibrate it. There are so many on the aftermarket that simply plug in and stick onto your dash, with nothing much more advanced than an internal magnet to find north, that I can hardly believe that Ford's "better idea" would have been to re-engineer the piece..... I could be wrong, of course, but this seems to be the most reasonable.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Sep-02 AT 08:48 PM (EST)]Bronco Cam, sorry I messed up on my gallery I scanned the pages of my manual so you could see the diagrams but accidentally selected the hide gallery box but its up now let me know if you need anything else, if your compass is working it must be self contained in my opinion.
P.S. I would put the pics directly in my post but the site wont let me upload them big enough so that their legible so if you go to the gallery and select size 4 it turns out good
Screwy thanks alot for the help. The owners manuel pages are exactly what I needed. I sure appreciate it. If there is any thing I can help you with or try to help you with let me know. Thanks again.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Sep-02 AT 09:45 PM (EST)]One more thing I just completely ripped mine apart down to the little computer doohickeys and yes everything including the compass is self contained minus the temp sensor, I dismantled, I stared, I poked (the compass), I reassembled. sorry couldn’t resist, the only thing I have not yet figured out is why it has such a big wire harness if its so self contained? maybe you know if you had to wire it up?
The harness did seem overkill but I wired it to my door harness and how i got it to work i dont know but it works and even dims when I turn the lights on. I still need to buy a sensor for my outside temp and wire that. Also i cant seem to get the map lights to work I traced the wires and they should work but they dont so I am still working on that. My day and night mirror works when pluged in so I cant figure why my map lights dont work. When I say my door harness I am talking about a connector on the harness that didnt plug into anything it might have been for the power mirrors that my bronco does not have. The wires matched by color to the console harness. I know its it crazy to just wire stuff up like that but I thought what the heck I already have had to put this bronco back together anyway such as new front end, interior, etc
I guess one thing I would try is change both the light bulb when I first bought my truck the passenger side light wouldn’t work I checked the bulb looked perfectly fine but it was dead also don’t the map lights go through the display computer maybe something messed up their do you have any left over wires minus the temp sensor wires?
No, no other left over wires. I did try to change the bulbs but that did not work I also got a wiring diagram from a book at the library. I was able to find out witch wires went to the lights and even tried to wire them directly into the fuse box but even that did not work.
as far as the light wiring, on my 93 bronco the factory light wires were the same color as the ones on the overhead console light. Make sure you have a good ground to it. I had a bad ground to start with and the overhead lights wouldn't work on mine. Don't have the compass though-building switch panels in it for later projects.
