Question on Throttle body...

Guys I bought a mint Explorer GT40 Upper and Lower exhaust manifold setup and I need to know if the a mustang throttle body will work with the setup? Is the explorer and mustang throttle bodies the same depending on the years...? Also, would someone please post a picture of the stock truck lower intake as this GT40 lower intake was taken, would love to see the differences for reference? This is on a 92 F-150 with the 302EFI motor also.

Explorer Lower GT40 intake:

Here is a picture of a 351 truck lower manifold. The 351 truck lower has different ports than the 302 truck lower, but the bolt locations and port orientation are exactly the same, just bigger ports on the 302 lower. As far as I know a mustang throttle body would work on the explorer intake, but that could be wrong.

Could anyone tell me what the explorer throttle body size is? Is it a 65mm or 70mm opening? I am thinking the 70mm is what I need to go since I am getting rid of the dual tubes going to the truck throttle body? Is there going to be any rewiring of any sensors because they are different from the explorer and 92-96 F-150's? I am betting that the sensors are going to be different threads though when it comes to threading the ACT sensor in and everything, who knows I haven't even jumped into the install yet, might be surprised ;-)

You might have to adjust some wire lengths, or just re-arrange the stock harness so that the wiring will reach to the new places (TPS and EGR valve position sensor wiring will have to be moved, not sure how much length is there to play with in the stock harness). I would think that most all the sensors can be swapped between the two intake manifolds. If one sensor doesn't match your stock wiring harness, swap it on over from the truck manifold. I think that the explorer throttle is 65mm, but I don't know for sure.

Well EPN, the explorer manifold won't come with any of the sensors that I know of, so I will have to either buy some explorer sensors or just swap over my F-150 sensors which that shouldn't be a big deal really. Will I lose any bottom end torque going to this setup on my truck or is this going to be a trial and error mod ;-)

Just swap over the sensors from the truck manifold, I would think they will fit. I have no idea what the powerband will be with all those things, but I would assume it wouldn't be much, if any, higher than stock. The explorer was pretty torquey and had a decently wide powerband, so I think you should be ok. Then if it doesn't work like you want it to, you can sell the gt40 intake manifold on ebay and stick the stock one back on there.

Yep exactly what I was thinking EP... Hey on the throttle and cruise control cable though, will the explorer intake work with the existing cables I have now, I know that I will need the bracket and I have heard guys flipping the throttle body over so that the bracket will be on top? I heard that you can't even buy a lightning throttle and cruise control bracket anymore? Another thing will a ford mustang or explorer cold air intake work now since I basically have a mustang lower and upper now?

I have no idea....try it and let us know what you find. You aren't going to get a step by step guide or someone to hold your hand all the way through this swap. That's part of customization--finding some part you want to use, bolting it on, then figuring out what is missing or what needs to be modified to make it work. I would guess that most lightning parts can still be had at the dealer or even on ebay. I don't think that an explorer or mustang cold air intake will work in a truck, even with the car-style intake manifold. Look at the ones for the first gen lightnings.
